Proposal Case 001: From Proposal to Specialist
When a doctor begins a master’s research journey, the proposal stage often sets the tone for everything that follows.
This doctor approached me early — at the study proposal stage — seeking guidance not just on statistics, but on the entire research pathway. From defining objectives to calculating the sample size, each decision carried both scientific and regulatory weight.
We structured a monthly consultation package, meeting once or twice a month. Every session was designed to move the project forward in small, achievable steps:
• Reviewing the study proposal and selecting the right statistical tests
• Addressing ethics committee queries with clear and defensible justifications
• Planning data collection and building an SPSS database
• Analysing data, creating tables, and writing result interpretations
• Refining responses to reviewer comments during thesis and journal submission
This case reminds me how powerful consistent guidance can be. With discipline, clarity, and persistence, the doctor successfully completed the master’s degree and was later gazetted as a specialist.
Every project like this reaffirms why early engagement — from proposal to publication — matters most in clinical research.
