Proposal Case 005: Teaching Analysis, Not Just Doing It
Some sessions are not about delivering results — they’re about building confidence.
A doctor studying in Bangi approached me with a clear goal: not to outsource her analysis, but to learn how to do it herself.
We met over the weekend at a café, turning the space into a small classroom of ideas and exploration. I offered her a personalised SPSS tutorial, covering both basic and advanced analysis techniques relevant to her study. Together, we explored:
• Performing Repeated Measures ANOVA for within-subject comparisons.
• Comparing models using Akaike Information Criterion (AIC).
• Practical tips to accelerate data analysis skills and improve efficiency.
During the session, we also worked hands-on with her dataset — learning how to:
• Recode variables, both manually and automatically, to handle missing or blank values.
• Group variables logically to prepare for analysis.
It was a wonderful session, filled with curiosity and discovery.
Moments like these remind me why I enjoy teaching — helping others not only understand statistics, but also gain the confidence to explore their own data.
